Make Your Own Homemade French Fries for National French Fry Day

By | July 6, 2026

National French Fry Day is this Friday! French fries are an American favorite and the perfect side dish for so many meals.

Instead of heading to your local fast food restaurant to enjoy these golden treats, try making them at home! Here is an easy recipe for homemade French fries.

Homemade French Fries

Ingredients:

  • Russel potatoes
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Seasoning of choice

Directions:

  1. Set your oven to 375℉. Prepare your potatoes by washing them and removing any bad spots. Cut your potatoes into skinny “matchstick” style sticks. The smaller the French fries, the faster they will cook.
  2. Once all your potatoes are cut, toss them with olive oil until every French fry is coated. Also, add salt, pepper and seasoning of your choice to the uncooked French fries.
  3. Get a large baking sheet and oil the sheet with olive oil. Spread the French fries on the baking sheet in an even layer, making sure they are not on top of each other. This may take more than one baking sheet.
  4. Put the baking sheet in the oven and cook the French fries for 25-30 minutes or until crispy. Halfway through cooking, turn the French fries over to ensure even cooking.
  5. For extra-crispy fries, spray the fries with oil halfway through cooking. The excess oil will heat up and essentially “oven-fry” the French fries.
  6. Once the French fries are cooked, let them cool and enjoy them with dipping sauces!
