Who doesn’t love the sand in their toes, the sun on their face and the smell of the fresh salty air? Whether you are going to the beach for a day or for a week, there are some things you need to know to make your beach trip a success! We have some fun tips for you and the family so that you have the perfect beach day!
Don’t Forget Water!
When you pack up your beach bags, don’t forget to bring water! When the kiddos are playing all day in the sun, it is so important that they continue to drink water throughout the day to stay hydrated. You could pack a gallon on water in your beach cooler, or bring refillable water bottles with you to fill before you walk onto the beach. Whatever you do, do no leave empty plastic water bottles on the beach when you back up to leave! Nothing can ruin a perfect beach day like a litterbug!
Cooler Companions
For those hot summer beach days, pack these quick and healthy treats that will keep your family happy. Remember to avoid salty and sugary snacks!
- Frozen Grapes
- Peanut Butter & Apples
- Lemon Slushy (Freeze lemonade in small Tupperware containers and store in cooler with ice. They will melt slowly and be the perfect beach treat.)

Go Shore Hunting
One of the best beach day activities is shore hunting! This is when you are the kiddos walk the shore line looking for shells, shark’s teeth and sea glass! Those shiny pieces of weathered, frosted gems sprinkled on the beaches are sea or beach glass. After 15-60 years of tumbling amidst the surf, sand and rocks in the ocean, these discarded glass fragments turn into a collectors dream. If you’re a collector of these sea-worn gems, visit the shores of Sea Glass Beach in Fort Bragg, California, which is said to have the highest concentration of sea glass in the world due to the area being used as a trash dump after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Please note, the glass found at Sea Glass Beach is protected by law, and may not be removed.
The best time to find sea glass is one to two hours before and after low tide.
Sea glass = from saltwater
Seach glass = from fresh water
Bring an Umbrella or Tent
Everyone loves to enjoy the sun, but sometimes it can be overbearing, especially in Florida. Beat the heat by bringing a beach umbrella or tent to the beach with you to set up for some shade! Use the shade to cool off or to take a beach nap without running the risk of getting a sun burn. It is also great to keep your gear underneath the shade so it doesn’t get to hot!
