Are you ready to watch the total solar eclipse Monday, April 8? This type of eclipse occurs “when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth” and the sun is completely blocked, making the sky dark like at dusk or dawn, according to NASA. Unfortunately, the sunshine state is not in the total eclipse path. However, we will be able to witness a partial eclipse, so don’t fret. But looking up at the sky April 8, it is important to learn how to safely watch the solar eclipse in Jupiter.

When to See the Eclipse

Jupiter’s partial eclipse starts at 1:45 p.m. and ends at 4:18 p.m. It will reach its maximum point of a 0.588 magnitude at 3:03 p.m., when the moon will be covering more than half of the face of the sun.

Safety Tips

Looking directly at the eclipse without correct eye protection will result in serious eye injury, according to NASA. Sun glasses are not a form of eye protection. Never look directly at the sun without an ISO certified lens or filter. These allow you to view the eclipse safely.

Viewing the eclipse through any kind of camera or telescope is also unsafe, according to NASA. You must use ISO certified filters for these items as well.
